Alexander Wells (centre, with beard) has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death.

A young man has admitted causing the death of a 16-year-old boy who was on the back of a ute when it rolled at a birthday party in country Victoria.

Alexander Wells, 21, was driving his ute in circles in a dirt clearing with 10 youngsters piled on the tray when the vehicle rolled, killing William Grace and hurting others at an 18th birthday at Gladysdale in February 2017.

"The youths on the back were thrown or jumped off the tray as the ute rolled," prosecutor Fran Dalziel told the County Court on Tuesday, after Wells pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing William's death.
