Yarrawonga 12.7.79 defeated Albury 2.1.13

The undefeated Pigeons battled hard against the 7th placed Albury Tigers at Yarrawonga for round 6.

The young Pigeons started well again scoring 5 goals to nothing in the opening term.

Mitch Loughnan was lit racking up possessions all over the ground and hitting the scoreboard.

The backline was solid with Jeremy Bramich, Jesse Tonna, Harry Barker and Alex Di Cioccio combining well to put the brakes on the Tigers as they went into attack.

Ollie Connell was exceptional on a half forward flank running hard all day and creating opportunities.

The second half was a more even contest and Darby Mullins proved to be a headache for the opposition running and jumping at every ball that came near him and with Ollie Cope ready to pounce on any loose balls that spilled his way.

Mac Pendergast played a pivotal role in the ruck and was unstoppable when combining with elite midfielders Liam Williams and Hunter Frauenfelder.

Highlight of the last quarter was a long booming goal from outside 50 from champion defender Lachlan Phillips.

An all-round team performance saw the Pigeons home by 66 points with 10 individual goal scorers, maintaining top position on the ladder leading into the bye.

Congratulations to the 9 boys selected in the interleague side for next weekend in Wangaratta - Frauenfelder, Pendergast, Loughnan, Phillips, Williams, Di Cioccio, James, Montgomery, Walker.

Good luck and we’re sure you’ll do the team proud.

Yarrawonga 7.6.48 def Albury Tigers 7.4.46

Round 6 of the AWJFL saw the little Pigeons at home where they took on the Albury Tigers. With the ground in great condition and the weather perfect for footy the game was expected to be a ripper with 2 evenly matched teams fighting for 3rd position.

Right from the start both teams attacked the ball and ran hard.

It was a great game for the spectators to watch as the Pigeons and Tigers kept the game open and moved the ball quickly.

During the course of the game the lead changed at least five times and at three quarter time Yarrawonga found themselves 3 points down.

It was a nail biter right to the finish and it was exciting to see the young Yarrawonga team lift their intensity in the last quarter to snatch a 2-point win.

Xavier Mitchell played yet another strong game, winning the rucks contests and taking strong grabs around the ground to win the Mulwala Bakery award.

Lachie Conway showed plenty of dash with some fast ball movement to earn the McDonalds voucher award.

Luka Walls played yet another smart game up forward where he received the Papalia’s Pizza award.

Lucas Tonna played a great game on the ball with plenty of hard attacking footy earning him the Urban Graze award.
