And Nagambie proved it when it dominated fellow top six-side Merrigum 62-25 in round 12.
‘‘There is a bit of a gap between fourth and fifth,’’ Nagambie coach Sarah Sanderson said.
‘‘Tallygaroopna, Stanhope and Nagambie have traditionally been the three dominant teams in the last five years.
‘‘Every year someone else pops up. This year, Dookie has come up.’’
Nagambie dominated Merrigum for three quarters on Saturday, winning the first, second and final term by more than 10 goals each.
The third quarter was more of a contest, although Nagambie still came out on top, 12-9.
Sanderson put the closeness of the third quarter down to turnovers.
‘‘In the quarters we were ahead, our turnover conversion was good,’’ she said.
‘‘But we turned it over too much in the third quarter.
‘‘We made a change every quarter and it took us some time to adapt.
‘‘Ahead of the last quarter we spoke about making sure we capitalise on turnovers, which we did.’’
Nagambie pair Katie Sullivan and Rachel Hall were among the best in the win, with Sullivan coming on in the midcourt in the second term, while Hall impressed in the goal ring.
‘‘(Sullivan) was our link between defence and attack,’’ Sanderson said.
‘‘She provided us with a spark in the second quarter. And she’s experienced. She observes the game well and gave feedback coming in the second term.
‘‘And Rachel’s just getting better and better.’’
Nagambie will have the week off with the split round, before facing 13th-placed Violet Town the following weekend.
Sanderson said there was still plenty for the Lakers to work on in the off-week.
‘‘Our unforced errors have killed us in tight games, so we’re working out what that comes down to, whether that is our fitness and working under fatigue,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ll get some good training in before next game.’’
●In Nagambie’s earlier matches, the B-grade side lost its match against Merrigum, 34-39. The Lakers were one point down at the final break but couldn’t outscore the Bulldogs in the final term.
The C-grade match saw Nagambie post a dominant 61-29 victory, with the Lakers’ second term their best, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-9.
