The weather was fine during the week, so all the Wednesday competitions went ahead. In the women’s results Dale Stuart (11) had 33 points to win the day. The extra competition was the second shot on the 12th hole and that went to Di Byrne. The ball pool went to Dale Stuart, Sue McCall and Di Byrne with 28 points.
Don Gee (24) had a great round to win the men’s Wednesday competition with 38 points. He held off five players with the next best score of 36 points; John Boruch, Bill Keating, Gary Wright, Jerry Bender and Graeme Drummond. Only two of the nearest-the-pins were claimed, Graeme Drummond on the sixth and T. Pearce on the 17th. A score of 34 points was needed for a ball.
The mixed nine holes was won by Stubby Byrne (25) with 16 points and the runner-up was Duncan Chisholm with 13 points.
The Dalhousie Veterans had a two-person ambrose at Lancefield on Thursday. Stormy Tempest and John Mundy combined to win the day with a very good score of net 63.
The Friday social six holes was over holes 10 to 15 and it was stableford. Kevin Mulvaney (18) and Rob Oldman (17) both had the best score of the evening with 11 points to share the winning honours.
It will be no surprise that the Saturday competition was not held while the course got a good soaking.
Friday the social six holes is stableford over holes 1 to 6. Next Saturday is the monthly medal for both the men and the women as well as the first round of the Winter Cup.
Nagambie
A small field assembled for a stableford event; with Nagambie having two pennant teams away, the difficult scoring conditions continued as they have throughout the winter this far. A winning score of 35 points was good enough to walk away with the day’s spoils — that was Don Bureck, a visiting golfer from Euroa. Runner-up went to the hard-working, always consistent Phil Hageman with 32 and third place was taken out by Tim Baldwin on 31. No nearest-the-pins were recorded on the day. The division 4 pennant team went down for the second week in a row, 3 and 2, against Rochester and Division 6 kicked off their season with a very smart win over Hill Top, 4 and 1. Next week is a bye for both pennant teams so local golf will be back to its best — a stroke monthly medal is on offer with J. Lodding on office duty and B.Norris in the bar.
