The first week of the new year thankfully started with mild weather on the competition days while the days in between tested the course and the water supply.
In the Wednesday women’s competition, Di Byrne (15) had a steady round to win the day with 36 points.
The extra competition of the best odd holes was also won by Byrne, with 21 points.
The ball pool went to Di and Dilva Grattan.
In the men’s competition, Gary Wright (12) had the best score of the day to win with a very good 40 points.
The next best were John Mundy and Vinnie Hall with 38 points each. Nearest the pin went to Sandy Cresswell on the fourth, Graeme Drummond on the sixth, Terry Lemon on the 12th and Paul Niebling on the 17th.
A score of 36 points was needed for a ball.
Saturday was the monthly medal and the first round of the Beale Family Summer Cup for men and the women.
This event is across four rounds, with the winner for each having the best net total for three of the four rounds, so it is only early days.
In the men’s daily results, Phil Jarvis, having played for a long time and with many trophies and achievements along the way, won his first monthly medal.
Jarvis had a great score of 82-16=66 to win the medal (and B-grade too).
The A-grade winner was Greg Pell, also with a nice score of 74-7=67.
This was the best scratch score and was shared with Ian Richardson, who also had a 74.
The C-grade winner was John Hedley with 90-19=71.
Nearest the pin were shared between the two scratch winners with Greg Pell the closest on the fourth and sixth and Ian Richardson winning the 12th and 17th. The drive and pitch on the eighth was won by Graham Welsh and the 15th went to Wayne Evans. A score of net 72 was required to get in the ball pool.
In the women’s results, Sharon Cresswell enjoyed an easy day of golf to win the medal and B-grade with 89-19=70.
The A-grade winner was Paula Britton with 87-15=72 on a countback from Ricky Rickman.
Nearest the pin on the 17th was Di Byrne. The ball pool went to Sharon Cresswell, Paula Britton, Ricky Rickman and Di Stammers with net 73 on a countback.
The Friday social nine holes this week is stroke over holes 7-15.
On Saturday the summer cup continues with the second round. Please remember the tee off time for Saturday golf for January and February will be 10am to 10.30am for the men and from 9.30am for the women.
Also the Dalhousie District Australia Day four-ball better ball stableford event will be held at Seymour on January 26.

A 12-hole stableford Christmas break-up competition played and the winner of A and B-grade was Jenny Jeong, with 23 points on a countback from Moz Fowler and Sue Verge.
Winner of C-grade was Judi Redfern with 16 points.
Nearest the pin on the eighth hole went to Ronda Richards and balls went to Jeong, Fowler, Verge and Sally Bazeley on a countback from Jo Goodacre.
The Christmas hamper raffle winner was Irene Keogh, 1; Phil Hageman, 2; Annette Mills, 3; M. Baldwin, 4.

The first competition round for the New Year will be a stableford today.
The club sends best wishes to the women’s captain for a speedy recovery from surgery on her ankle after an unfortunate fall.

The latest chicken run saw 30 turnout for a for stroke round played on the front nine and won by Allan Anderson with 44-11-33 nett.
Next week will be par event to be played on the back nine.
