Seymour GVL season opens at home with Mansfield

By Seymour Telegraph

Next season’s Goulburn Valley League fixture has been released.

Seymour will play round one at home against Mansfield on April 6, before making the trek to Echuca for their round two clash.

The club will play a special Good Friday (April 19) clash away to Benalla, and will play Euroa in their traditional Anzac clash on April 27.

The GVL said clubs had the opportunity to negotiate time and day changes to the fixture before it was finalised.

The league will showcase six night games in the first four rounds, two games on Good Friday, and an ANZAC day game.

General byes on May 18 (Community Champs) and July 13 (Vic Country game) and a split round in August will break up the season.

The grand final is booked in for September 22.

‘‘Many of our clubs like to create stand-alone games in the fixture, whether that be night games or Sunday games,’’ GVL chairman David Roff said.

‘‘These games typically lead to larger gates and greater income opportunities which we will see again in 2019.

‘‘The major focus for clubs was the request for more rivalry rounds during the year which will be beneficial for gates and exciting for football and netball games across our league.

‘‘The negotiated changes to the 2019 fixture result in a healthy balance for all, with six night games in the first four rounds to take advantage of the pleasant Autumn evenings, while the two Good Friday games will make for an exciting spread of football and netball over the Easter weekend.’’
