A 15-YEAR-OLD Heathcote girl was taken to Bendigo Hospital by ambulance on late Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car.
The vehicle, which was travelling south on the Northern Highway, struck the teenager outside Palling Bros Brewery around 3:40pm.
Sergeant Rosie Rowe confirmed that speed was not involved.
‘‘The girl was blinded by the low afternoon sunlight, and didn’t see the car,” Sgt Rowe said. “As she tried to cross the road, she was hit.”
She was taken to Bendigo hospital as a precaution.
Steph Ryan, Member for Euroa, said that while the girl didn’t sustain serious injuries, a review into pedestrian safety is needed.
“The Northern Highway through Heathcote is getting busier,” Ms Ryan said.
“With the new IGA and other developments, more vehicles will be on the roads.
“A pedestrian crossing is needed near the IGA before something worse happens.”
