The staff of Seymour Post Office and The Brewers Table were the winners of the Rotary Club of Seymour’s annual Pride of Workmanship Awards. Nominations for the awards were sought for businesses or employees showing exemplary diligence, consideration and service in the delivery of their work. The awards were instigated by Rotary to acknowledge the importance to the community of a job well done and of going to extra lengths to provide excellent service in their chosen careers.

‘‘During the past few years the staff at Seymour Post Office have earned a reputation for providing exemplary service,’’ Rotary president Mariam Baker said. ‘‘Times have changed at the post office. Once simply selling stamps and handling mail, postal staff are now required to be expert in many areas like passport photos and the large range of products and services on offer,’’ she said. ‘‘The staff go beyond the normal standard of service experienced in the retail and service industries.
‘‘From the friendly greeting on arrival to the final thank you, business is always conducted in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.’’ Mariam said The Brewers Table was awarded not only for its cuisine but also the team’s contribution to the community. The Brewer’s Table occupies what was the home of Veneto Blu. ‘‘Rob and Carmen Fifield took on the premises and reopened on August 10, 2015,’’ Mariam said.
‘‘The Brewer’s Table provides Seymour with a café and restaurant providing the community with an excellent dining experience.
‘‘Conscientious staff and management are always dedicated to providing a positive dining experience to their clientele be it for an informal coffee or a delicious meal.’’
Mariam said The Brewers Table employed young people in the community, training them in the requirements of hospitality and preparing them for careers in the industry.
‘‘These young people can then remain in our community with good employment prospects or seek employment further afield. The thorough training supplied sets them up for successful careers in the future,’’ she said.
‘‘Local groups are welcome at The Brewer’s Table, as are groups of young parents and their children along with older residents catching up with friends.
‘‘The staff of The Brewer’s Table go to great lengths to make functions and events enjoyable and to accommodate the varying needs of their clients.
‘‘In addition to being a very good cafe and restaurant and a great meeting place, Carmen and Rob have taken pride in making the cafe a community hub.’’
