Take advantage of TAFE

By Seymour Telegraph

Whether you’re fresh out of school, returning to study after a break or seeking a career change, GOTAFE can help you achieve your goals.

And with eight campuses in five locations, you can stay connected to your friends, family and community while you’re studying.

It’s a great time to enrol at GOTAFE. Not only are there more than 200 accredited courses to choose from, but GOTAFE is also offering 47 free TAFE courses.

Already, hundreds of students have taken advantage of the Victorian Government’s free TAFE initiative and enrolled at GOTAFE.

GOTAFE chief executive Travis Heeney said free TAFE had provided affordability and accessibility to many GOTAFE students who might otherwise not have been able to undertake a course.

‘‘Many of our free TAFE courses have rolling enrolments or mid-year starting dates so there are still plenty of opportunities for people to apply for a course,’’ he said.

Free TAFE courses are available in a wide range of study areas and are designed to reduce the financial barrier for students wanting to train in courses that lead to jobs in demand from Victorian employers.

‘‘At GOTAFE, we have strong partnerships with industry and employers, so you receive practical experience, sound career advice and have every opportunity to secure the job, the promotion or the career change that you are working towards,’’ Mr Heeney said.

Recently, Training and Skills Minister Gayle Tierney announced more than $5.6million in funding for GOTAFE.

The funding boost, for courses in baking, dental assistance, nursing, cabinet-making, engineering fabrication and health services, was for courses and programs that would be delivered by GOTAFE under the Victorian Government’s regional and specialist training fund, and workforce training innovation fund.

These funds aim to address skills gaps in regional areas and improve training outcomes.

Mr Heeney said the funding would help ensure GOTAFE’s curriculum was fully aligned to the current and future needs of local employers, industries and communities.

‘‘We are resolutely committed to ensuring the needs of students and industries – especially across regional Victoria – are at the heart of all we do,’’ he said.

‘‘We are a diverse, welcoming community and GOTAFE is committed to supporting our students to achieve their desired goals.

‘‘Our students’ success is our success.’’
