During its 35-year history, the Seymour branch has created awareness, educated the community and raised a great deal of funds for the Cancer Council.
But today, the numbers are dwindling.
‘‘To be sustainable, you have to continue to get new members,’’ secretary Carol Smith said.
‘‘For us, we’re finding that increasingly difficult.
‘‘Because so many people are working full-time, it can be harder to get involved.
‘‘But the commitment isn’t as big as people think and it can be as big or as little as people can give,’’ she said.
The group meets for an hour, on the second Wednesday of that month at Seymour Health at 7pm.
‘‘In this hour we plan all our fundraising and events — from the Biggest Morning Tea, Daffodil Day and any Pink Ribbon events,’’ Ms Smith said.
‘‘We’re always open to new ideas too.’’
The fantastic work of the branch will be celebrated at a dinner on May 3 at the Seymour Club.
This event is a chance for people interested in volunteering to come along to and find out more about the volunteer group.
‘‘We will be having a guest speaker from the Cancer Council on the night who will discuss the progress our group has made in our history,’’ Ms Smith said.
‘‘For anyone interested in finding out more about what we do, this is a great opportunity.’’
Tickets are $35 and are available from Leading Edge Jewellers by April 27.
