On Sunday night at Shepparton RSL, the Goulburn Valley League inducted five new members into its Hall of Fame.
Seymour’s Greg Liddell was acknowledged by the league in front of members and his family, with his name forever etched in GVL history.
‘‘It was pretty overwhelming,’’ Mr Liddell said.
‘‘It’s come out of left field, it’s not something that I’ve ever thought about.
‘‘I actually watched the AFL Hall of Fame for the first time (this year) and I showed a bit more interest ... especially at my age you think footy awards are all past you, but I feel humbled and it’s a great honour to even be alongside Chris Stuhldreier, who I played against and admired and he’s the sort of person that should get it, you don’t think about yourself among them.
‘‘I really treasured premierships, but to be honest when my (three) sons played in premierships with Seymour that made me pretty emotional to have the three boys in 2006 (when Brendan and Gerard played in the senior premiership and Damian played in the reserves flag).’’
