One happy tipster

Avenel’s Stephen Royals was The Telegraph’s second jackpot tipping winner, taking home $400 worth of vouchers.

For Blues fan Stephen Royals, the key to football tipping is to trust your head, not your heart.
And this strategy has paid off for the Avenel-based owner of J & J Equipment Hire, whose name was drawn out of a hat as one of a couple of punters to record a perfect score in round 10 of The Telegraph’s weekly footy tipping competition.
To take home the $400 jackpot worth of vouchers, Mr Royals picked the winners of some difficult games, including Hawthorn versus West Coast in Melbourne. But he was also smart enough to not let his allegiances get in the way of the $400 jackpot.
‘‘I support Carlton and I generally try to tip against Collingwood if that’s possible — I picked them as a last resort this week,’’ he said.
‘‘I’m usually pretty average, but I don’t think I’m doing too badly there on the ladder at the moment.
‘‘Not exactly sure what I want to use the vouchers on at the moment. But the immediate ones that stand out are Avenel Meats, because we’re locals, so we’ll be hitting Scotty (Scott Reid) up, and the jewels (Leading Edge Jewellers) are looking pretty good for a birthday present.’’
When asked to gaze into the crystal ball, Mr Royals predicted Melbourne will take on West Coast in the 2018 AFL grand final.
