Cutting edge service

During opening hours, the exterior of the Stihl Shop Seymour gives the visitor a clue, with a long row of mowers and other equipment such as a log splitter lined up on the verandah.

But who knew what might colloquially be regarded as a chainsaw store had such a diverse range of products?

Certainly the bright orange livery of the Stihl brand is to the fore.

This successful family run business is embedded in the Seymour community not simply because it sells things people need, but because of the importance of servicing and repairing that equipment.

Donna Fulton, co-owner with her husband Mick, said they opened Stihl Shop Seymour 23 years ago and now employ four staff.

‘‘We do servicing and repairs to any sort or brand of chainsaw, lawnmower, ride-on — all outdoor power equipment,’’ Mrs Fultonsaid.

No surprises to learn that with cold weather approaching, those chainsaws that have sat forgotten in the shed all of a sudden need a spruce up.

‘‘Now people should be getting prepared for the firewood season,’’ Mrs Fulton said.

New chains, chain sharpening and servicing are all on the go while customers are also looking for chainsaw oil and safety gear.

For the more energetic, high-quality traditional axes, wood splitters, secateurs and other manual equipment are also available.

‘‘We have anything you need to get those jobs done,’’ Mrs Fulton said.

Stihl Shop Seymour is at 45 Wallis St.
