The 1st Seymour Scout Troop had a fire awareness and camp craft night. As of May 1, fire restrictions are now lifted.

Chris Lewis from Seymour CFA came along and spoke about fire safety, appropriate clothing, and fire restrictions.

Chris touched on things like what to do in an emergency, how to report an emergency, and making sure to have a fire plan.

‘‘Fire awareness is something we should be aware of all year round in the home as well as in the bush,’’ Chris said.

After the fire briefing it was time to learn how to light fires; how to put a pan cook fire out safely with a fire blanket and then cooking up a treat of roast spuds, sausages, salad and vegies — these scouts will not go hungry on a camp.

1st Seymour Scouts and Venturers are recruiting. If you are interested in a social life with a bit of adventure (and for Venturers doing Queen’s Scout, additional ATAR score recognition), then come along and see what we do.

Recently we had a camp at Anglesea, went hiking along the Surf Coast, and canoeing on Lake Nagambie, watched movies, played games as well as had Masterchef nights.

Youth Led, Adult Supported, it’s your ideas that get put into the program along with the great badges and activities on offer.

Scouts are 11-14 years and meet Tuesday nights, and Venturers (15-18 years) meet Monday nights.

The Seymour junior CFA meets on Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm all year. For more information phone Chris on 0414802033.
