With winter around the corner, Seymour Medical Clinic’s Dr Amit Singh said now is the perfect time to get a flu shot.
The flu can strike all year round, but Dr Singh said it was worse in the colder months.
‘‘So autumn is the best time to come get the flu vaccine done, because if you get the flu you could be totally broken for seven to 10 days,’’ he said.
Dr Singh said while influenza A, B and C can be particularly damaging for people above 65 years of age, young children, pregnant women, and people with heart or neurological problems, everyone should consider getting the vaccine.
‘‘The flu can come in three different common types — A, B and C — and the vaccine we are using now covers all these,’’ he said.
‘‘But I recommend that everyone, regardless of age, caste, creed, colour or religion, to come forward and get this vaccine. If they qualify they can get a free vaccine, and if not, it’s only $15 — the price of three cups of coffee — which will prevent you having a nasty cold, runny nose, muscle aches, headaches and diarrhoea.’’
The Seymour Medical Clinic runs a flu clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 2pm to 3pm and on Wednesday from 5.30pm to 6pm.
