Residents will be able to cool off at one of Mitchell Shire Council’s three outdoor pools right up until the Easter bunny hops into town, with the outdoor pool season extended until Easter Monday.

With plenty of predicted warm weather still ahead, the council’s pools in Seymour and Tallarook will remain open on weekends until the end of Easter (Monday, April 2), whenever the temperature is forecast to be 26°C or higher.

Weekday swimming will finish after the traditional Labour Day long weekend closing date (March 13), but if the weather really heats up, the council will open on weekdays subject to lifeguard availability.

The free lap swimming trial at Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool will also continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6am to 8am, weather permitting.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said it was great to see the season extended, especially given how well used the pools had been so far.

‘‘Plenty of warm days have seen a fantastic turn-out to our outdoor pools so far this summer. In fact, at the end of January we’d had more people through the gates than we did for the entire previous season,’’ Cr Sanderson said.

‘‘There still looks to be lots of warm weather ahead so we’ve made the decision to keep the pools open on weekends until Easter Monday. This is great news for our community and I would encourage everyone to get down to their local pool and make use of the extended opening period.

‘‘The outdoor pools are great, affordable ways to cool off, go for a swim and socialise. If you’ve never been to one of our pools before, now is the chance to give it a try and if you’re a regular user, take a friend along and show them what they’ve been missing out on.’’
