In the lead-up to the festive season Seymour residents are being encouraged to get together and decorate their letterboxes.
Seymour Business and Tourism committee member Carly Eldredge said given some people could not afford to jack up their electricity bills by adorning their houses with Christmas lights, the group wanted to encourage people to focus their creative attentions on the front yard.
‘‘We thought decorating a letterbox is an attainable thing for elderly people and little kids,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s affordable and easy, and then people driving around town can see a bit more colour — it shows some community spirit, that people are working together.’’
But instead of making the whole thing a competition, Ms Eldredge said it was more about having a go.
‘‘Rather than a best-decorated letterbox, which might make people spend heaps of money, it’s just about participation.
‘‘It’s there for everybody then, and people can decorate however they want.’’
