Mayor Rhonda Sanderson and Deputy Mayor David Lowe were re-elected last week.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson and Deputy Mayor David Lowe were both re-elected at the Broadford Council Chamber last week.

During her incoming mayoral speech, Cr Sanderson said it was an honour and privilege to be re-elected by her fellow councillors.

‘‘At the Declaration of the Poll last year, I stated that I saw the election of this new council as ‘the turning of a new page — a new beginning for Mitchell Shire’ — and that it has proved to be,’’ she said.

‘‘I am really proud of how this new council is working so well together — being very positive, genuinely willing to listen, discussing issues respectfully, and importantly being very focused on the future and on the community’s needs.’’

Cr Sanderson said the council members had gained some valuable experience in the past year which could only help them moving forwards.

‘‘We had six new councillors out of the nine, and they’ve learnt how the system works now,’’ she said.

‘‘They’re learning to have patience, because you can’t do everything immediately, and we need to consult with the community about what we do. So we’ll just continue on doing what we’ve been doing in those respects.

‘‘I believe this next year might be even better.’’
