Men
Nagambie was blessed with two rare events during the previous week with the super blood moon eclipse on January 21, followed by the second phenomena of Greg Whiteman winning Sunday’s stableford event with a remarkable 43 points.
When asked how the 43 points come about, Whiteman had little or no explanation, unlike the celestial event earlier in the week which had a complete scientific elucidation.
The unfortunate runner-up behind the preceding miracle was David Love with an impressive 40 points, next best was Harold Rayner with 37.
The nearest-the-pins went to Tim Baldwin on the third and 13th, with Baldwin’s shot on 13 missing out on the ace by a mere three inches.
The 16th went to the ‘miracle man’ Greg Whiteman with an angelic strike onto the green rounding out a day of total wonder.
The coming week’s golf will be a stroke monthly medal with G. Bow on office duty and J. Mills in the bar.
Women
Due to the extreme heat once again Nagambie women only played nine holes. It was a par competition on the back nine. Players assembled at 7.15am for a 7.30am start.
A, B and C-grade winner was Sue Verge with an impressive +4. Today’s players will take part in a stroke competition.
The chicken run results from the previous week saw 16 players brave the heat for a stableford competition played on the back nine.
Winner was Hugh Lawrence with 25 points.
This week will be a stroke event to be played on the front nine with the nearest-the-pin competition on the third hole.
Seymour
It was another hot week at Seymour Golf Club, but most competitions went ahead with reasonable fields.
The women’s Wednesday competition was won by Shirley Wright (15) with 32 points.
The extra competition was the best even holes and that went to Pam Jarvis with 19 points on count back from Shirley Wright.
The ball pool went to Shirley Wright and Pam Jarvis with 30 points on count back.
The men’s Wednesday stableford round was won by Rob Peterson (14) with a steady 36 points on count back from John Hedley.
Nearest-the-pin on the fourth stayed with the club but the sixth went to Greg Pell, the 12th to Terry Lemon and the 17th to John Callaghan.
A score of 34 points on count back was needed for a ball and those went to Rob Peterson, John Hedley, Terry Lemon, Rob Oldman, Graeme Drummond and Frank Ambrose.
The mixed nine holes was won by Stubby Byrne (28) with 18 points. The runner-up was Duncan Chisholm with 17 points and the other ball recipients were Dawn Leece and Melva Gardner.
On Saturday the club hosted the Dalhousie District Australia Day four-ball better-ball event and thankfully the weather conditions had improved from the day before.
There was a terrific field of 66 players representing 11 clubs in the district. The winning women’s pair was Di Stammers and Paula Britton who had a great score of 45 points.
The runners-up were Mary Campbell from Broadford and Elaine Scanlon from Romsey with 42 points.
For the men the winning pair was Phil Jarvis and David Hamilton who won with a fantastic 47 points on count back.
The unlucky runners-up who lost the count back were Dale Mountjoy and Broadford’s Jeff Ranger.
The nearest-the-pins for the women were Di Stammers on the fourth and 17th, Chris Doherty from Mt Macedon on the sixth, and Mary Claassen from Broadford on the 12th.
The men’s nearest-the-pins were John Callaghan on the fourth and sixth, Chris Lingard from Lancefield on the 12th, and Dale Smith from Avenel on the 17th.
The Friday social nine holes this week is a stroke over holes one through nine.
On Saturday it is the final round of the Beale Family Summer Cup for men and women and also the monthly medal for men.
