Annual chocolate celebration

Celebrity chef Kirsten Tibballs will join Ministry of Chocolate owner and head chocolatier Drew Maddison for the second annual Mitchelton Chocolate Festival.

All things chocolate will be celebrated this month as part of the annual Mitchelton Chocolate Festival.

Mitchelton Wines and the Ministry of Chocolate will deliver the two-day festival on the grounds of the iconic winery over the weekend of August 19 and 20.

Organisers are promising this year’s event will be bigger and better than last year’s inaugural festival.

The Mitchelton Chocolate Festival will again be headlined by celebrity chefs Adriano Zumbo and Kirsten Tibballs, but this year will feature Masterchef’s ‘ice cream queen’ Christy Tania and Cuvee’s Deniz Karaca.

Ministry of Chocolate owner and head chocolatier Drew Maddison said the event is expected to attract more than 8000 visitors.

‘‘We’re proud to have established an annual culinary event during the normally quieter winter months, where visitors stay at local accommodation venues and use the event as an opportunity to explore the wider region and other local attractions,’’ he said.

Marquees brimming with mouth-watering treats and the best knowledge of all things chocolate and sweet will be on offer at the festival.

Additionally, chocolate and wine pairing classes will be held in the iconic Mitchelton Tower.

On the Saturday, the best chefs will compete for the Callebaut ‘Best Show Piece’ and on the Sunday, the Cacao Barry ‘Best Chocolate Entremet’ will be judged.

Competitors will plate and present their final culinary dessert to four esteemed judges who will adjudicate before the public announcement in the afternoon.

The family-friendly event is free to enter and will include a children’s zone complete with jumping castle and petting zoo.
