ON THE ROAD: Country stars Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole are coming to Shepp to perform songs from their new duets album.

Country songstress Beccy Cole is back in Shepparton and Bendigo this week, but this time she is not alone.

The South Australian performer will be touring with her good mate and fellow musician Adam Harvey to perform songs off their new collaborative album The Great Country Songbook Volume 2.

The album is Cole’s first where she shares top billing with another artist and is the follow-up to Harvey’s successful 2014 record The Great Country Songbook, which he released with Troy Cassar-Daley.

Cole and Harvey have been good friends since they met nearly 20 years ago at Tamworth, but despite touring together many times, this is the first time they have released an album together.

‘‘Our friendship goes way back. Adam’s wife actually calls us the male and female version of each other,’’ Cole said.

‘‘I think that is a compliment.’’

The two put a new spin on some of the great country music duets, including songs originally made famous by Johnny Cash and June Carter, Kenny Rogers and Dottie West and Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner.

‘‘We came to the studio with a host of songs each and a lot of the same songs were on both of our lists,’’ Cole said.

Although all the songs pay tribute to the originals, the duo put its own spin on the classic songs.

‘‘I was a little bit worried about Don’t Fall in Love With a Dreamer,” Cole said.

The ’80s pop-country classic, originally by Kim Carnes and Kenny Rogers, had an over-the-top production that was common from the decade.

‘‘It was such a huge ’80s ballad at the time, but you wouldn’t produce something like that these days,” Cole said.

‘‘We did a much more stripped back version and it still works.’’

Despite the risks of releasing her first collaborative album, it debuted at number six on the ARIA charts, the highest debut for either artist, when the album dropped in April.

The duo will be in Shepparton Eastbank on Thursday to perform songs from the record, as well of tracks from their solo catalogues.

‘‘We are looking forward to it. It’s been a while since I’ve gone to Shepp,” Cole said.
