The Maternal Child Health line is being expanded, helping 20000 more new parents to get the support they need when they need it most.

Through the phone line, nurses provide parents with support and guidance on issues including child health, nutrition, breastfeeding, maternal and family health, and parenting.

The phone service, available by calling 132229, is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and takes more than 300 calls a day on average.

There are currently 70 Maternal and Child Health (MCH) nurse positions in the service, but this Victorian Government investment will create another 15 positions.

‘‘Our Maternal and Child Health nurses are the envy of the world,’’ Families and Children Minister Jenny Mikakos said.

‘‘This funding will give more families the support they need when they need it.

‘‘We’re investing in improving and expanding the support Victorian mums and dads need to raise happy, healthy kids who are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.’’
