NAIDOC Week was held across the nation last week to celebrate the identity and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Locally, a NAIDOC Week parade was held in Seymour on Wednesday.

The parade made its way down Station St to Kings Park, where the celebrations continued.

The event featured a traditional Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony, free community feast, family-friendly activities and service provider stalls.

The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week was Our Languages Matter.

It emphasised the part languages play in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural identity, linking people to their land and water, as well as the expression of Indigenous history, spirituality and rites through story and song.
